FAQ's About Retainers

Some of the glue came off of my bonded (lingual) retainer wire. What should I do?

Call the office to schedule an appointment. Please start wearing your clear aligner retainers as much as possible. This will help to keep your teeth from shifting and provide you some comfort from any poking wire until you can come in for your appointment.

My removable retainer is cracked, what should I do?

If possible continue to wear until you are able to schedule to have a new holding aligner made. Call our office for current pricing and to schedule an appointment.

My retainer is not fitting! What should I do?

Most likely your aligner does not fit due to lack of wear. Try to make it fit and wear it for a 24hr period of time. If you are still having problems please, call and schedule an appointment.

If I stop wearing my retainers, will my teeth shift?

Yes, definitely yes.

When can I stop wearing my retainers?

Dr. Flanary recommends that you continue the prescribed wearing of retainers for a lifetime. This will help prevent relapse and help you maintain your beautiful full smile you worked so hard for. Over a lifetime teeth shift, drift, and collapse. Don’t let this happen to you!
